Dianthus occurs as genus of about 300 species of flowering plants in the family Caryophyllaceae, native chiefly to Europe and Asia, with two or three coinage extending in the south to northward Africa, and of these coinage (D. repens) within arctic North America. Most common list include carnation (D. caryophyllus), pinkish (D. plumarius & related coinage) & sweet william (D. barbatus). A title Dianthus is from either a Greek words dios ("god") and anthos ("flower"), & was cited per Greek plant scientist Theophrastus.
A metal money come mostly perennial herbs, two or even three come annual or biennial, & a select few come moo subshrubs with woody basal stems. A leaves are opposite, elementary, mostly linear & typically strongly glaucous grey-green to blue-green. A flowers have 5 flower petal, usually by using the ruffled marginside, & come (in about 100% mintage) blanch to dark pink. A single metal money (D. knappii) has yellow flowers using the purple centre.
